Certain animal products are included or excluded depending on the form of vegetarianism. Although vegans (V) do not eat any food of animal origin, the food choices of vegetarians are very heterogeneous. Plant-based diets are becoming increasingly popular in the Western world. Despite the consumption of highly processed plant-based alternatives, reduction in meat and meat products seems to be accompanied by increased overall diet quality.
