For a short distance, riders are on flat ground, until the track elevates and gets up to a height of 415 feet. Inside the fortress is icy crystals to give the Fortress an Arctic feeling (the Fortress is in the Arctic). The station is a bright green, modeled after Krypton, the planet Superman originated from. The entrance area/queue is modeled after Superman's Fortress of Solitude. ![]() The ride's front entrance has a giant "S" embedded into the ground. Today, the ride has two Intamin drop towers on both sides, themed after Superman's archenemy, Lex Luthor. The new attraction opened shortly before Memorial Day Weekend. The park announced the ride would be rethemed into Superman: Escape from Krypton. Then in June 2004, rider restraints were remodeled to prevent incidents on the ride due to its extreme steepness.Īfter Independence Day 2010, Superman closed and stood SBNO. In 1999, the ride was closed while new brake fins were installed. After ten months of last-minute engineering, the ride opened on March 15, 1997. Previews were held for passholders in fall 1996.
